1. School regulations
1. School hours are from 8.00 am to 2.00 am. Students must arrive at school premises by 7.45 a.m. Students, once reach the school, are expected to go to their respective classes and study before morning assembly. Regularity and punctuality are demanded of all the students. Habitual late comers will be sent home or detained after school. No one who has been absent (or late) may be admitted to the class without an admittance note from the principal’s office.
2. School premises are kept clean. Litter or rubbish is to be disposed in bins provided for the purpose. Students take turn to clean the school compound.
3. A student who is not properly dressed in school uniform or habitually not clean will not be permitted to the assembly or to attend the classes or will be sent back home.
4. Silence in the classroom is mandatory. Classrooms are the temple of learning. In the absence of the teacher, the class Captains are responsible for the order and discipline of the class. In the event of a teacher being unduly late (more than 5 minutes) the classes monitor or in-charge is to inform the school office.
5. In the case of accidents, students require medical attention are to be promptly taken to the school office.
6. PT and games are compulsory in the school. Those who are injured or sick should take exemption from the Principal.
7. English will be spoken at all times in the school premises. Besides the school authorities and the teachers, it is also the duty of School, House and Class Captains to implement this rule in the school. They must inform the Principal about a student who frequently and habitually breaks this rule of language.
8. Books which are not prescribed for studies, magazines, news papers, MP3 players and mobiles, are not allowed in the school. Any electronic gadget or mobile phone confiscated by the school authority will not be returned.
9. Student found with obscene books , pictures, tapes, CDs/DVDs, mobile phones and the like in their possession or lending them to others are liable to be punished even dismissed from the school.
10. Students must not scratch or spoil the desk, write with chalk or pencil on the walls or in any damage to school property. Any kind of damage to school property (even by accident) is to be made good at the cost of the responsible party. A class is responsible for all the properties of the classroom and any damage to the school property is to be promptly reported to the class teacher or to the Principal.
11. Any damage done to the school property must be made good by the students responsible. If the offender is not discovered, a collective fine may be imposed upon the entire class. The decision of the Principal/Vice-principal regarding the amount to be paid is final.
12. The school is not responsible for the loss of any goods belonging to the students. Students are not permitted to bring dangerous articles such as knives, razor blades, guns, daggers, firecrackers etc.
13. No students are to leave the school campus during school hours. However a student can be allowed with the permission of the Principal.
14. The school does not approve students coming school with ‘mehendi’ applied on their hands. Any sort of makeup or wearing bangles or ‘Kada’ are not permitted in the school.
15. Rule of touch has to be maintained by every student while in the school. It means each one keeps his/her space; one does not intrude into other’s space and touch the other or do any harm to the other, especially between boys and girls.
16. Complains regarding the students or others in the school have to be through the principal/Vice-principal.
17. A student shall bring only healthy food to the school. No one is allowed to bring junk food items like: noodles, choumin, kurkure, lays, and the similar types. Bring only home-made and healthy food.
18. Students are not allowed:
a. To leave the school during the school hours unless the parents come to take the student.
b. To raise subscriptions or collect any kinds of funds.
c. To organize any picnic, excursion, tournament or fete without the permission from the school authority.
19. No one should be playing on the school grounds after the school hours without the permission of the Principal/school authority.
20. No student should have any parents/guardians assisting them to have snacks/lunch in the school. Students must bring them to have snacks/lunch etc. in the morning when they come to the school.
21. During the activities and outings the school takes all necessary care and precaution. In spite of this if any accident or mishap occurs, the school will be in no way responsible or liable.
22. The principal/Vice-principal reserves to himself the right to use corporal punishment for the correction of students and may delegate the same to staff members as and when seen appropriate.
23. All the Divine Word School students are expected to:
– Show respect to all the teachers and elders
– Avoid shouting, whistling or running around and within the school building
– Avoid using indecent language
– Avoid throwing paper, stones etc. anywhere in or around the school premises, except in the bins provided for the purpose
– Observe all the rules while travelling to and from the school
– Give care to nature and love the nature
a. Behaviour
1. All students must be distinguished by their disciplined and polite manners.
2. Students should be clean, their hair well groomed and neatly dressed in their Uniform.
3. When the teacher enters the class room, all the students must stand up and wish him/her according to the time of the day. They shall at the end of the class stand and thank the teacher before he/she leaves the class room. Student should respect and greet their teachers whenever they meet them in/outside the school.
4. Throwing things at one another is forbidden.
5. Eating fruits or sweets or any other eatables inside the class rooms are strictly forbidden.
6. The use of durgs, cigarettes, tobacco, pan, tamul, supari, talab, goldie or other chewing and addictive/intoxicating substances is strictly forbidden in the school and school campus. Student found indulging in these substances will be dismissed from the school without warning. When students happen to quarrel or fight in the campus or school premises, the matter must be immediately reported to the Principal/Vice-principal.
7. Students are not allowed to join outside clubs or make engagements that would interfere with their studies. Students found disturbing the school; instigating indiscipline or encouraging absenteeism will be expelled without warning.
8. Students are not allowed to form union in the school. Activities of Student Unions that exist elsewhere will not be permitted in this school.
9. Students cannot be interviewed during school hours without special permission of the headmistress.
10. Parent found threatening and/or manhandling the staff or other‘s children in the school, no matter what the fault may be, will find their children expelled from the school.
11. Students found forging their parent’s/Guardian’s signature will be suspended or dismissed from the School.
b. Discipline
1. To acquire great facility in the study of English, medium of communication within the campus should be in English only. Students who are found repeated using other languages will be fined.
2. All pupils are responsible to the school authorities for their conduct in the school as well as their general behaviour outside. Therefore, any objectionable conduct out of the school will make them liable for disciplinary action including dismissal.
3. Every student is urged to contribute to the high standards of the school by his/her good manners and gentlemanly conduct.
4. Running, playing or shouting inside the school building is not allowed.
5. No student is allowed to remain in the classroom during drill/recess period. Students from one class are not permitted to enter another class.
6. Students are not allowed to bring any fancy/harmful items in the school. School authorities may confiscate such goods.
7. All should take an honest pride in keeping their school clean. Be very careful not to litter the floor, the compound and roadside with paper. Please make use of the waste bins provided for the purpose
8. Students found using unfair means in the examination or monthly test/class test will be dismissed without warning.
9. All students must use their own materials and are themselves responsible for them. The school does not accept responsibility for loss of books, pens, money, cycle and so on. It is not advisable for the students to have money or valuable articles with them.
10. The lost and found articles must be submitted to Principal/Vice-principal office. The owner could claim it by giving the identity of the object.
11. No collection for any purpose whatsoever is to be started and no meeting, demonstration , party or picnic may be held in the name of the school without the permission of the Principal. Those who indulge in them are liable to be punished including dismissal from the school.
2. Rules governing leave and absence
1. A student must attend the school from the opening day till the last day of the scholastic year.
2. Leave notes are obligatory. Leave must be applied for in advance.
3. When the absence (sick leave or otherwise) is due to unforeseen circumstances, due entry must be made briefly in the Non-Attendance and leave record pages in the diary and signed by parent/guardian. This should be endorsed by the Principal/Vice Principal before a child attends class.
4. No leave of absence is granted except for a serious reason. In case of serious reason the Principal may grant leave on the basis of a written application by the parents/ guardians.
5. If a pupil is likely to be absent for a long period (more than three days) the principal must be informed in writing.
6. Student going out of station for several days during working days for marriage or such function is not acceptable to the school and no application for leave for such reasons will be entertained.
7. When a child sick, she/he should not be sent to school, even if there is a class test or unit test. Health is more important than anything else.
8. In the event of a student being absent from the school for 30 days continuously without prior permission of the principal, his/her name will be automatically be struck off from the rolls.
9. Again, for the note, all the students are expected to attend class on the reopening day after major holidays. Those absent without prior leave permission will be fines Rs. 20 per day. Those absent because of illness must inform the school before or on the reopening day through a letter of the Parent/Guardian.
10. Student with a cumulative attendance of less than 85% will not be allowed to sit for the promotion examination and will be detained.
11. Late comers must get proper entries made in the late Arrival session of the dairy before entering the classroom.
3. Rules governing payment of fees
1. Divine Word School has not received any government or private aid. Fees charges are its only income. School fees will be enhanced up to 15% every year in order to give increment and to enhance the salary of the staff. We have no other options as CBSE and the government wants us to implement government pay-scale for the teachers, which we are trying to do so gradually. Ultimately it is your ward that gets benefits.
2. The school account is in the State Bank of India and all the fees must be paid through bank only.
3. Fee will be received by the SBI, Roing branch on behalf of Divine Word School and shall be paid between 10th and 25th of every month. No reminders will be sent for the payment of the fee.
4. The school charges cover twelve calendar months. No reduction or concession is made for holidays or broken periods. Parents are expected to clear the fees beginning of academic year. (1st June)
5. Fees for sports, library, maintenance, development, computer etc. shall be paid together with the tuition fees.

7. Late charges Rs. 50 per day will be charged in case of delay in payment.
8. Higher classes will have different academic charges.
9. The school authority reserves the right to revise tuition fees and other dues from time to time to meet the exigencies.
10. All items of fees, once paid cannot be refunded under any circumstances.
11. Mark Sheet and Certificates will not be issued to pupils who have arrears in the school.
12. Parents must produce the fee receipts as a proof of payment in case of any doubt.
a. withdrawal
1. One calendar month’s notice will have to be given for the withdrawal of the child from the school.
2. All dues must be cleared and library books, if any, or school property items (Id card, etc.) must be returned before the child is withdrawn.
3. Pupils who fail in a class for two consecutive years will not be permitted to continue studies in the school.
4. Transfer cases
1. In transfer cases, application for transfer certificate must be made in writing to the Principal by the parents/guardians, mentioning therein the Class, Section, Roll No. and admission No. of the pupil. Transfer certificate once issued and received by the student/parent/guardian cannot be re-issued by the school office.
2. A student, who was issued T.C. from this school once, is not eligible for re-admission.
3. Only a duplicate can be obtained from the school of the following conditions:
a. A written application stating the reason (lost or theft)
b. Application must be signed by parent or guardian
c. Scrutiny fee of Rs. 500 must be paid in cash with the application
d. There will be a gap of three days between the day of application and issue of duplicate.
4. No certificate (original or duplicate) will be issued without the clearance of fees due, books of the library etc.
5. No matters of admission and withdrawal the decision of the principal is final.
5. Removal from the school
1. The principal reserves the right to remove from the school any student whose conduct is in his opinion against the good and moral tone of the school. Immorality in word or deed, willful damage to school property, and name of the school, grave insubordination, unsatisfactory progress in studies, lack of diligence or the use of unfair means in the examination, bringing dangerous articles to the school, callous attitude towards school regulations and to the teachers, leave or absence (more than 15 days, without prior permission) are sufficient grounds for the removal.
2. Strike or any form of collective indiscipline is strictly forbidden. Students indulging in these activities will be dismissed without warning.
3. All absence from school must be explained by parents in the ‘Absence record’ page found in the diary. If the leave is for more than 3 days, besides the note in the diary, an application must be made for the purpose.
4. The principal is the sole judge regarding the dismissal of a student, when they apply for their ward’s admission to Divine Word School, are understood to have accepted the Principal’s judgment in such matters as final and conclusive.
6. Library
1. Student of class V to X are allowed to borrow books from the Library, if necessary. A student will borrow only one book at a time by writing application and taking permission from Principal/Vice-principal.
2. Books may be retained not more than 10 days, counted from the day of issuing.
3. If the student wishes to keep it longer, he/she should bring the book to Library and renew it.
4. Those who lose or damage the book in anyway will have to pay the full cost of the book with a fine of Rs. 200/-.
5. Check the book at the time of borrowing. If any damage is noticed bring it to the notice of the Librarian immediately. Thereafter no complaints will be entertained.
6. If for some reason or other, books cannot be returned on time, the student concerned must intimate the same to the librarian in writing.
7. Magazines and reference books are not allowed to be taken out of the Library.
8. No one is allowed to take or return books with another’s name.
9. Any student who fails to return the books in the time or fails to clear the fine imposed for irregularity with regard to library books, will not be allowed to appear in any test or examination conducted by the school.
7. Parents and the school
1. In order that the school may attain the high standard that the school intends for all the students, co-operation of the parents or guardians is imperative. The best of schools and best of trainings are seriously crippled unless the home does its part. Parents are requested to see that their children spend sufficient time for studies daily.
2. All parents are earnestly asked to ensure that the ideals of courtesy and gentlemanliness, which are proposed to the students during the school hours, are practiced in their home life.
3. The parents have entrusted their children to Divine Word School, to bring them to maturity. They, however, should co-operate with their school by their total involvement, which calls for a real understanding of the school’s philosophy.
4. Parents should be the living examples of the values taught and expected to their wards. They should inform the Principal and the teachers concerned of any family problems or other pertinent facts that are necessary for the proper understanding and guidance of their wards. They should participate in the growth and development of DWS. The school makes following recommendations to Parents/ Guardians:
i. We greatly value our parents and you are most welcome to meet Principal or any teacher. However, when you want to meet a teacher make a prior appointment with the teacher through ward’s diary. Space is provided in the diary where you can communicate with the teachers. It is also required that you obtain permission from the principal before you meet a teacher. Parents/ guardians are not allowed to enter the classroom and roam around the veranda in the school.
ii. School diary is a medium of communication between the teachers and the parents. Please check your son’s and daughter’s diary frequently and countersign if the principal or a teacher has made a remark or communicated a message.
iii. Assist your son/daughter to make a time table for him/her, separate ones for working days and holidays. Once the time table is made by him/her in freedom, you should make sure that your ward sticks with it. “Discipline is the bedrock of character.”
iv. The school strongly disapproves of private tuitions especially from student’s own subject teachers. Your cooperation is essential to implement this school directive.
v. Make sure that your son/daughter prepare their lessons and do their home tasks, come to school regularly, in time and in clean School uniform. The school strongly disapproves of a student’s absence in important school days Teacher’s Day, Children’s Day, School annual functions, sports days) and days of national importance (26th January, 15th August etc.)
vi. You ward should not bring money or any other valuable articles. The school does not accept any responsibility for the loss of books, cloths, money or any other articles while in the school.
vii. Parents are not expected to shout, scold or intimidate or belittle the teachers for any matters. This may lead to demoralizing the teachers and those parents may be asked to withdraw their children from the school.
viii. Parents are required to keep the school informed of any medical or development of problems relating to the child. Do give the school your up-to-date emergency telephone number in case we need to contact you urgently.
ix. Principal sends information through letters to parents/guardians about the activities, achievements, growth and development of Divine Word School.
x. Parents-teacher meetings are organized to foster better understanding.
xi. Parents, who are requesting a teacher of the DWS for favours of their wards, may be asked to withdraw their wards from the school.
xii. The school can do very little for the students whose parents give bad example or teach something contradictory to what is taught in the school.
xiii. The school will not approve and appreciate any parental association/club/forum formed outside of the school in the name of the school. The PT Association is the only official forum, where one can bring the concern to the notice to the management. The Principal will deal with the individual parents individually.
xiv. Grievances of any sort should be presented in writing for better disposal. No telephonic discussion with regard to administrative policies will be entertained.
xv. Whenever a notice is sent to you by Principal/Vice-principal/Class teacher respond to it positively. It is for the welfare of your child.
xvi. Special notes to the parents:
a. By inculcating in their wards regular and punctual attendance.
b. By sending their wards to school daily, dressed in the uniform neat and tidy.
c. By seeing, their wards are diligent in their homework and lessons.
d. By insisting on neatness and cleanliness in their test books, exercise books and personal appearance.
e. By occasionally meeting the Principal to discuss the progress of their children.
f. By supplying to the children the necessities of school life.
5. Health regulations
A student returning to the school after suffering from an infectious or contagious disease must produce a doctor’s certificate declaring him/her completely cured. Where there is any such sickness at home the school authorities should be informed immediately.
6. Activities of the Divine Word School
Divine word school education may be described as formation taking place over a length of time. It aims at go beyond mere schooling and simple instructions. In our students we are dealing with impressionable persons of great dignity whose worth in their own eyes and God’s, we encourage them to see. We confront them with challenges to excellence in order that they may appreciate and foster their talents.
To help our students to discover and foster their talents, DWS provides various activities such as:
– Elocution and entertainment, dramatics, debating press club etc.
– Social service and leadership camps, the House system, the interact Clubs
– Musical instruments, painting, Craft etc.
– Physical Health and Sportsmanship: Athletics, Football, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton etc.
– Annual book fare to encourage the habit of self reading
7. Kind information
1. The moment you enter the school premises you are under video surveillance.
2. The school compound is plastic free zone. No one is permitted to bring into the compound plastic bags, bottles or plastic covered food items.
3. Our school fully support and encourage the Prime Ministers “Swacha Bharat Abhiyan”, and it is our duty and objective to keep our school compound clean and tidy. So chewing pan or gutka or podia, smoking and spiting in the school compound is prohibited.
4. In order to keep study atmosphere in the school, all are requested to keep your mobiles in silent mode in the school and school compound. Thank you for your cooperation.
